Patrick Kennedy Memorial Garden

Patrick’s Garden To Be Dedicated This Summer As A Tribute To Devoted Coach, Volunteer

As you pass by the north side of Little Cubs Field, you may notice a new addition, a section of brick-enclosed landscaping with a selection of plants that are growing rapidly. The new garden honors the memory of Patrick “Coach” Kennedy, and will be formally dedicated later this summer.

Kennedy has been described as “a master at volunteering,” and devoted much of his free time to mentoring Freeport’s young people and making the city a better place. He volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, M.A.D. (Making A Difference) Men and as a helper at Freeport High School’s student garden. He coached Freeport High School Football and was the Director and Coach for Freeport Junior Tackle Football for 12 years. He also served as a member of the Little Cubs Field board. He left behind his wife of 18 years, Penny, and many fiends and mentees.

If you’d like to join us in honoring Coach Kennedy, please watch this space for the announcement of the dedication time and date.
